We put Piki down the morning of November 15, 2001. He had a cancerous tumor in his jaw that he had lived with since the Spring of 2001. It simply got to the point where it was too painful for him to eat, so he was not only in constant pain but also constant hunger. We think we did it at the right time, while he was still able to enjoy life a little bit. The veterinarian first gave him a strong sedative, so his final memories are of gradually falling asleep while we were petting him. As his body relaxed, we were profoundly saddened, but also relieved that he was at peace.
